Our Catskills Real Estate Guide is Back by Popular Demand
Last year’s most popular post was our Looky Loo’s Peak Inside the Catskills Real Estate Market, so we decided to give it an update and publish a Winter 2019 edition. Using our completely subjective and shamelessly arbitrary criteria, we bring you the best of the best Sullivan County real estate has to offer.
1. Catskills Real Estate Porn
Think, for a moment, about what $599k would buy in Brooklyn. A quick search on Zillow features a 684 sqft 1 bedroom condo in BedStuy or a fully detached, single family home in Brighton Beach. File those thoughts away into a quiet spot in your brain and take a look at what the same amount of money will buy you in the Catskills.
This contemporary post-and-beam construction sits on 6 acres of land of bucolic land. Located in Callicoon and just 10 minutes from Bethel, the property has stream front access to Hurst Pond and deeded rights to Kenoza Lake. At 1,452 sqft, with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, it features radiant heat, on-demand hot water and air conditioning.
My guess is that this one will sell well in time for summer vacation so if you want to take a look in person you better do it fast.
2. A Cozy Cottage in the Woods
Perhaps all you are looking for is a snug little cottage on a modest patch of land. Built in 1930 and resting on 12 acres of wooded land, this little charmer is bursting with vintage charm (what I like to refer to as “grandma chic”). Check out the original clawfoot tub, refrigerator, gas stove and farm sink! The house features wood floors and built-ins throughout the inside, and bluestone steps and patio on the outside. At $139k with 2 bedrooms, a basement and a garage, this house is a steal!
3. Under $100k
Our under $100k find is truly remarkable. At just $59k this adorable 5 bedroom house in Narrowsburg has many original fixtures, including the kitchen range and amazing bathroom sink that would cost an arm and a leg if bought as new reproductions. There are hardwood floors throughout and I personally like the wallpaper with it’s pretty, vintage charm.
4. Small Business Special
The beautifully renovated Clair Inn in Youngsville (located between Livingston Manor and Callicoon) could be yours for a mere $495k. This turnkey building features a cafe with takeout area; bar with punched tin ceiling and walls; immaculate commercial kitchen, 4 en suite rental rooms, large deck, a charming red barn; and sits on over a full acre of land.
Looking at these pictures and thinking about my hellacious subway commute this morning has me pondering the possibilities myself.
5. You Just Won the Powerball!
This place is no where near the most expensive place I found for sale, but it is by far the most fabulous. At $1,149,000, this estate can be bought with a mere scratch-off win.
Constructed with a finely tuned mid-century aesthetic, this place was actually built in 2010. At nearly 5,000 square feet the house features three wings, a chef’s kitchen, built-in bar, and jaw-dropping views. Best of all, it has a conversation pit!!
Imagine yourself relaxing on the built-in leather sofa, listening to records and sipping a high ball while you stare at the roaring fire. Maybe you’re hanging out with friends or maybe your enjoying the solitude. Either way it doesn’t get much more fabulous than this.

Thanks for these houses. I love looking through the real estate. I myself live in 1890 Brownstone home. I love the old and new combo.
