A Little Something for Everyone

Experience has taught me that there are two kinds of people in the world: the kind that can’t pass a house without straining their neck to catch a glimpse inside and the kind that would never dream of doing such a thing.  If are the former, this article comes directly from my heart to yours!  This is just a small glimpse of what is available in the very active Catskills real estate market, and represents what I think are the most important categories.  So check out our picks and perhaps plan your visit to check the listings out in person.

We will be launching a Catskills Real Estate Directory that lists all the resources you need to plan your move, so be on the lookout out for more to come soon!

1. Catskills Real Estate Porn

Let’s be honest, this is the real reason you are on this page. That’s okay, we all do it, lose ourselves in the amazing houses we should be living in and imagining our lives if we did.

Before you dive in take a moment and consider what $795k would get you in Brooklyn.  Depending on the neighborhood you can probably get a one bedroom, maybe even two if you don’t mind going farther out.  Most likely your unit will come with monthly maintenance fees and zero outdoor space (no, fire escapes do not count as outdoor space).  Create a picture in your mind of $795k in Brooklyn and then look at what the same budget will get you in the Sullivan Catskills: This 1,600 tasteful square foot home sits on 57 wooded acres and features stunning views, a stone fireplace, expansive deck, and inground swimming pool.  This home is located in Barryville, which is a popular area for second home owners.

2. A Cozy Cabin in the Woods

If you are looking cozy cabin with privacy, views and a swimming pond this place is for you!  Located in North Branch, NY this 1,800 sqft cabin sits on 5.5 acres and comes with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a free-standing garage, and fully stocked swimming pond.  Listed at $274,900 this property is someone’s affordable Catskills dream!

3. Under $100k

Did you know that in the Catskills you can get a 1,800 square foot house plus an acre of land for under $100,000? This is a vintage farmhouse with 4 bedrooms and loads of original charm including wood floors and built-in cabinetry throughout, an antique wood/gas kitchen stove, and a claw foot bathtub.  Listed at $94,900, I would be tempted to buy the house just for the stove alone!

4. Small Business Special

Thinking of packing it all in and permanently escaping to the country?  Or maybe you can’t afford to buy in Brooklyn but you can afford the Catskills, and the prospect of having that property make a bit of money back for you is super appealing?  Consider this, a recently renovated boutique hotel in the center of Narrowsburg, NY for $350k.

Narrowsburg is right on the Delaware River and one of the more “active” hamlets with a number of shops, restaurants, festivals, and a farmer’s market during the summer months.

6. You Just Won the Powerball!

The most expensive Catskills real estate listing I could find came in just under $9mm.  For that amount you’re getting pretty much exactly what you’d expect: an actual estate.  With 48 nature-filled acres, spectacular views, professional tennis court, outdoor kitchen, gunite swimming pool and jacuzzi, the 8,500sqft house includes a master suite “wing”, sauna, and fireplaces.

Technically you don’t even need to win the Powerball to buy this estate, the regular lottery should do.
