The River Gallery is a Must
The River Gallery in Narrowsburg, NY is one of my must-visit destinations when I have some time to be out and about in the Catskills. The River Gallery features an eclectic mix of sophisticated antiques, vintage mid-century modern furniture and furnishings, as well as unique pieces from local artists. All of their inventory works as one-off pieces but works even better when paired together, an enviable combination of country charm with city style.
From New York City to the Catskills
The owners of the River Gallery, Barry Becker and Tony Coscia, are both fashion-industry veterans from Manhattan who started with a second home in Narrowsburg and transitioned to full time Catskill living in 2005. Barry and Tony have worked with designers including Versace, Ungaro, Yves St. Laurent, Leonard-Paris, and Valentino and that fashion experience comes through in their wonderfully curated selection of home furnishings and accessories. They also represent what the rest of us can only aspire to – leaving your hectic city life behind to open up a fabulous successful shop in the Catskills – so stop by the shop if only to be inspired!
Mid-Century Madness
While I adored all of their mid-century offerings I was especially taken by their pieces from local artists. The local pieces are elegant and sophisticated but still completely at home in the rustic Catskills setting (or in a Brooklyn apartment!) The best part is by buying you are supporting local artists and local industry, actual people who make their living producing these unique creations that would truly set your home apart.
River Gallery is located on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY where you’ll find other cute shops and restaurants – most notably The Heron (they will be featured in a future post). Narrowsburg is extremely scenic and worth an afternoon or pack a picnic and walk down to the river and make it a day!
