When life does it’s best to beat you down all week nothing is more welcomed than a Saturday night cocktail, which tastes even better when served from an elegant bar cart. The first “nice” thing we bought for our place in the Catskills was Society Social’s Hayworth Bar Cart, which has a very ’40s, gilded bamboo, glamour girl feel to it.
Because the bar cart is “new” nearly everything else I put on it is vintage, which I think both adds to the retro/glamour feel but also gives it charm and character, you never want something to look like you bought it straight out of a catalog. In this case I have a vintage souvenir tray from the state of California, a miniature McCoy vase, and a vintage aluminum pitcher and cups that were a wedding gift to my parents. Stemware is from Ikea – not fancy but definitely practical!
I also like to buy a bunch of fresh flowers at the grocery store each Friday that I cut up and distribute in little vases and glasses around the house, there is nothing like a fresh flowers to make you your space look nicer. And there is something special about having fresh flowers that I think makes you feel a bit more special too, definitely helps take the edge off after a long week!
When shopping for a bar cart make sure that you look for function in addition to stye. This one for example has places to store a couple of bottle of wine as well as a place to hang your stemware. It’s also on wheels which is great if you want to move it to where you’re sitting, which also significantly increases its functionality!
Society Social recently opened up a studio in Soho that I will be visiting later this fall, watch this space for what I find during my visit!
