It’s the first weekend in May and there is lots to do in the Catskills this weekend!  From yard sales to food festivals, there are two big events happening on the same day but with a bit of planning you can hit them both.

City-Wide Yard Sale in Port Jervis

First up is annual City-Wide Yard Sale in Port Jervis taking place from 9:00-4:00 on Saturday, May 6.  Make sure to wear your walking shoes and bring cash, especially small bills, to pay for your amazing new treasures!

Port Jervis is accessible by commuter rail via NJ Transit but if you want to be able to bring home something you can’t carry it’s definitely better to drive.  Whether you travel by train or by car be sure to check out Foundry 42, an amazingly eclectic coffee bar/retail space antique and Catskill-inspired home furnishings.  Here are two detailed maps of the City-Wide Yard sale participating locations so you are ready to go:

The Municipal Parking Lot alone has over 12 vendors, it will be like shooting fish in a barrel!

Wild Ramp Festival in Roscoe, NY

Next up is the first annual Wild Ramp Festival hosted by the Roscoe Beer Company in Roscoe, NY also talking place on Saturday, May 6 from 11:00-4:00.  If you are asking yourself, “what is a wild ramp and why is there a festival for it?” as I did you’ll be interested to know that it’s a wild onion grown during the spring in the Eastern US and Canada.  More than that, they’re apparently very delicious and some people are quite obsessed with them because they are scarce – they grow slowly and are only available for a few weeks in the spring.  This Wild Ramp Festival has fun for the whole family with music, a farmers market and of course lots of ramp-inspired food.

There is also a Farm to Table dinner (tickets are $40) if you are looking to take it to the next level and enjoy an entire meal with wine, spirits and beer.

Don’t wait, gas up the car, rent a car or buy a train ticket and make your plans to take your road trip to the Catskills this weekend, you’ll love it there!
